SALARY RANGE: $24.29 - $31.66 per hour Commensurate to experience.

SCHEDULE/REMOTE/HYBRID: This position may involve working a variety of schedules, including evenings and weekends and may be subject to work beyond normal scheduled hours including emergency call-in resulting from being called out for emergency situations creating dangerous conditions for the community. Work schedules can be changed with little, or no notice and mandatory overtime may be required with little or no advance notification . Remote and/or hybrid schedules are not available. However, flexible scheduling may be discussed upon hire and supervisor approval.
RELOCATION: This position is located in Greenwood Village, Colorado. Relocation assistance is not provided.
REQUIREMENTS: The minimum requirement for this position is four years of landscape maintenance experience including a minimum of two years of experience in urban forestry including proficiency in tree climbing using a rope and saddle. Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.

As a municipal organization, Greenwood Village is a provider of emergency services. Some emergency situations, including weather-related emergencies, may necessitate Greenwood Village employees to assist in areas of work that may not be directly related to the employee’s specific job function, but which will be within the physical capabilities, training, and skills of the employee.
Distinguishing Characteristics: The purpose of this position is to perform highly skilled urban forestry work, participate in snow and ice control activities, and direct a crew of Parks Technicians and seasonal workers in the performance of varied duties.
Essential Functions:
Urban Forestry
- Cares for trees and shrubs on Village property; coordinates and performs tree and shrub planting for replacement and/or site developments including digging holes
- either by hand or using equipment; performs fertilization of trees and shrubs.
- Performs technical skills related to tree climbing, pruning, and removal; climbs trees using rope and saddle skills in a safe and efficient manner to prune and remove; adheres to all safety policies and procedures.
- Inspects trees and shrubs for diseases and insects; assesses the health of trees and shrubs to determine which trees are in need of treatment or removal; makes
- recommendations for tree and shrub treatments and apply pesticides and or chemicals to treat the plant material.
- Safely removes and grinds tree stumps including arranging for utility locates; operates chip truck and chipper; operates chain saws.
- Plants trees using proper techniques; waters newly planted trees; prunes small, medium and large trees; assists with wood disposal.
- Prepares requests for supervisor for new equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Coordinates with other team members to ensure no disruption to other parks.
- Performs physically arduous work outdoors and in adverse weather conditions.
- Responds to and performs after-hours calls for service and emergency repair.
- Operates aerial lift vehicle to trim and remove trees safely
Data Collection and Reporting
- Gathers and provides data to respond to and resolve service requests; provides information and reports to supervisor and management, as necessary.
- Collects and maintains data on tree inventory; maintains necessary logs; maintains records of all maintenance performed on equipment; maintains SDS data on all chemicals in inventory and ensures material is stored according to standards.
- Utilizes CityWorks, GIS/GPS, AutoCad, etc. for updating and maintaining information.
Parks and Open Spaces Maintenance
- Provides assistance with a variety of parks and open space maintenance duties including, but not limited to, grass and weed mowing and trimming, power raking, and fertilizing; tree and flower bed planting, watering, and maintenance; aeration; application of pesticides for weed eradication; sprinkler irrigation; picking up trash; installs landscaping items such as steel edging, tie walls, bark, and trees and shrubs; chemical application on turf areas, trees, shrubs, open space, natural areas, and shrub and mulched beds; installs, maintains, repairs, and replaces park amenities.
- Operates light to heavy equipment, various hand and power tools and equipment, and other machines to perform assigned duties.
Snow and Ice Control
- Installs plow, sander, and other equipment on trucks; operates light duty snow plow trucks, ATVs, UTVs, sanders, and other related snow removal equipment such as a snow blower or shovels on an assigned shift.
- Loads sand in trucks using front-end loader and uses front-end loader to remove snow.
- Operates a single or double-axle dump truck, which requires a class B CDL, to remove snow and apply sand.
- Works various shifts, as required, to provide necessary coverage; remains on call to respond to weather conditions requiring immediate response.
Lead Responsibilities
- Leads, oversees, and participates in the work of the assigned crew of maintenance staff; reviews work to ensure proper work methods and techniques.
- Collaborates with assigned supervisor to determine priorities and objectives; reviews established work schedules for assigned crew.
- Coordinates staff and equipment usage; identifies equipment and material needs; collaborates with other staff and contractors as appropriate.
- Maintains records on equipment and material used; reviews information with assigned lead and supervisory staff.
- Verifies the work of assigned employees for accuracy, proper work methods, techniques, and compliance with applicable standards and specification.
- Ensures adherence to standard safety precautions and practices.
- Trains employees in proper work and safety methods.
Miscellaneous Duties
- Communicates and interacts with members of the public; responds to customer service requests.
- Follows safety measures adhering to the Village’s safety policies and procedures; maintains and utilizes provided personal protective equipment (PPE) when conducting activities exposing employee to risks.
- Assists in special projects, including set up and take down for special events; building construction; participating in annual clean-up programs, etc.
- Performs trash and recycling removal duties at all parks, native areas, and roadside areas throughout the Village.
- Performs minor maintenance on equipment and/or vehicles.
- Cleans and maintains maintenance shop, tools, workspace, equipment, etc.
- Maintains inventory of parts and supplies; replenishes supplies when necessary, according to Village purchasing policies.
- Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.
Position Requirements:
Knowledge and Abilities:
- General practices applied in urban forestry.
- Knowledge of equipment, tools, and materials used in areas such as urban forestry and
- general park maintenance.
- Occupational hazards (including ANSI) and standard safety practices.
- Operations and activities of a park maintenance program.
- Methods and techniques of urban forestry maintenance and general maintenance parks and open spaces.
- Perform a variety of physically demanding work for extended periods of time and in unfavorable weather conditions including extreme heat and / or cold.
- Identify trees and shrubs.
- Safely climb trees and work in trees for extended periods of time utilizing proper equipment.
- Perform heavy manual labor requiring a full range of physical motion including standing, walking, manual digging, pushing, pulling, lifting, twisting and turning, bending, stopping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, balancing, crawling, and reaching for objects.
- Operate a variety of maintenance and repair equipment, including various hand and power tools and light and heavy-duty equipment, in a safe and effective manner requiring hand/eye and hand/foot coordination for operation.
- Lead and oversee the work of maintenance staff while preforming specific duties related to tree and shrub work.
- Interpret, explain, and enforce maintenance policies and procedures.
- Perform work along high-volume roadways.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Operate a variety of maintenance and repair equipment, including various hand and power tools and light and heavy equipment, in a safe and effective manner.
- Use independent thought and decision making.
- Prioritize items needing attention.
- Coordinate work site operations for efficiency and safety.
- Recognize hazards.
Experience and Training:
Four years of landscape maintenance experience including a minimum of two years of experience in urban forestry including proficiency in tree climbing using a rope and saddle.
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
Certificates or Licenses:
- Possession of, or ability to obtain within 180 days, an appropriate, valid class "B" commercial driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to obtain coverage by the Village’s insurance carrier.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain within one-year, Certified Arborist through the International Society of Arboriculture.
Preferred Certificates and Licenses:
- Colorado State Department of Agriculture certification for pesticide application in categories of ornamentals, rangeland and turf.
- ISA Certified Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ)
- ISA Certified Tree Worker Climber Specialist
- ISA Certified Tree Worker Aerial Lift Specialist
- ISA Certified Arborist Municipal Specialist
Equipment Utilized:
Requires the capability to operate a wide variety of equipment used in the parks construction and maintenance including aerial lift vehicle, grapple truck, trenchers, backhoes, front-end loader, grade tractor, skid steer, forklift, track hoe, compactor, blowers, sprayers, air compressor, portable generators, pick-up truck, single and double-axle truck, snow blowers, and hand tools.
Contact with Others:
Primary internal contact is with own or other maintenance crews for purposes of completing assignments. Primary external contacts are with equipment or material suppliers and citizens.
Supervisory Requirements:
Receives general supervision from the Parks Supervisor. Exercise technical and functional supervision over Parks Technicians or seasonal workers assigned to a project.
Hazards:
Frequently exposed to safety hazards from equipment operated, climbing trees and working in trees, manual labor, and work in high traffic areas. Job frequently requires physical effort requiring lifting of objects weighing over 50 pounds.
