The Illinois Workers' Compensation Commission is seeking the services of three (3) experienced Court Reporters for our Chicago office.

 

This position is a union position; therefore, provisions of the relevant collective bargaining agreement/labor contract apply to the filling of this position.

Position Overview

Under general supervision of Public Administrator, transcribes at a high rate of speed, verbatim testimony given in judicial hearings or administrative functions; prepares and certifies transcriptions of testimony for inclusion in records; furnishes copies of transcriptions to contestant parties upon request.

Essential Functions

  • Performs court reporting duties in judicial hearings brought before representatives of the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission.
  • Completes testimonial transcription.
  • Insets supplemental material at proper place in transcript in accordance with notations made in record.
  • Refers to citations and other source materials in preparing transcripts.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of high school, supplemented by graduation from a recognized school or program of court reporting with courses in steno-typing, stenography, legal and medical vocabulary and legal procedures.
  • Requires possession of a valid Illinois Certificate of Registration as a certified certificate as a shorthand reporter issued by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers two (2) years of experience accurately and completely composing transcripts of testimony.
  • Prefers two (2) years of court reporting experience.
