Job Summary
Under direct supervision, assists physicians and staff members in performing optimal ambulatory health care to patients; stocks and maintains exam rooms and nurses stations; assists with clinical and clerical duties including rooming patients and taking/recording vital signs.
Job Duties
Greets and escorts patients to exam rooms. Prepares patients for physicians visit by obtaining initial information and vital signs; assists with exams, tests, and special procedures as directed; may be required to draw blood, collect urine, provide wound care and give immunizations and medications under the direction of provider.
Checks patients medical records for pertinent data; reviews and maintains current patient information/demographic data, social history, medication record, and pertinent medical history from the patient questionnaire while interviewing the patient in appropriate sections of the record only for the medical assistants level of access.
Prepares and organizes room for next patient; inspects exam rooms for cleanliness and equipment condition; stocks and maintains rooms and nurses stations with adequate supplies Sterilizes equipment per SLUCare policy and procedures; may enter supply orders through Billikin buy (requires clinic lead/supervisor/manager approval) for processing.
Schedules appointments and tests; enters and results POC orders and may pend other orders in the electronic health record according to orders from and at the direction of provider; pre-certifies patients for insurance coverage for in clinic procedures; sets up referral contacts; reviews all requisitions (labs and x-rays) for completeness.
Requests previous medical records and information from appropriate sources; completes requests for confidential transfer of medical records and information.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Ability to use an electronic health record application and trained in Medical Administration
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Graduation from a recognized Medical Assistant Program or one (1) year of applicable patient care experience
Previous medical experience (an externship at SLU may be substituted for one-year patient care experience)
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Preferred current certification or registration as a Medical Assistant
