Operating Room Assistant 2 (OPS ROOM AST 2) Job Summary
This position description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification. It is not designed to contain or be interpreted as a comprehensive inventory of all duties, responsibilities and qualifications which may be required of the employee assigned to the position.
The employee in this role must be knowledgeable of professional standards, practices and guidelines of the Perioperative area. Additional responsibilities of this position include providing assistance and support services in the clinical and non-clinical areas of the operating room. The incumbent also works alongside other support staff and participates as an ORA team member with responsibilities for maintaining the O.R. environment. The employee in this role participates in activities that clean, organize and prepare all areas of the Main Operating Room. In addition, but not limited to, this position facilitates transport of supply items, instruments, and equipment. The employee in this role will transport patients, transport specimens, transport deceased patients, and under direct supervision of a registered nurse, may assist with other patient care activities. This position is also responsible for maintaining and organizing supply items, instruments, and equipment, properly handle clean and infectious waste, distribute sterile supplies, instruments and equipment, clean and test autoclaves for proficiency, document properly in various logs, and provide other general duties pertinent to the department's needs.

- Experience in the total Operating Room environment Including AORN professional standards, practices, and guidelines of the Perioperative area, including but not limited to experience applying: Knowledge of aseptic technique, knowledge of Universal Precautions, knowledge of proper surgical attire, knowledge of proper traffic patterns In the surgical suites, knowledge, skill, and ability to transport surgical patients, knowledge, skill, and ability to Implement surgical case containment protocols & OR sanitation techniques, knowledge, skill, and ability to identify emergent and routinely used surgical equipment and supplies, knowledge, skill, and ability to care for surgical instruments and equipment, knowledge, skill, and ability to handle Infectious waste and hazardous substances (chemicals used for cleaning, sanitation, disinfection, and sterilization), knowledge, skill, and ability to clean and test functions of autoclaves
Department Description The Main Operating Room delivers patient care through provision and management of capital supplies, Instrumentation, and technological support as well human resources in collaboration with medical and paramedical staff to effectively manage patients undergoing elective, urgent, and emergent surgical Intervention.

Special Requirements - This position is a critical position and subject to a background check and drug screen. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background investigation including criminal history, identity checks and drug screen.

- Physically able to lift at least 25 pounds.
- Physically ability to push/pull> l00lbs.
- Physical strength to assist in moving and/or lifting patients and surgery equipment.
- Must see well enough to read charts & instructions.
- Must have the ability and fine motor dexterity to operate equipment, computers, keyboard, and mouse.
- Proficient in using standard business software including email and common word processing applications.
- Demonstrate error-free prose that conveys meaning to readers with clarity and fluency. Write text that effectively communicates ideas, facts, and/or information to an audience appropriate for the assignment. Apply the conventions of standard written English.
- Hear and speak well enough to communicate with others directly and over the phone.
- Must be able to work with adaptability, flexibility & maintain composure during stressful and/or adverse conditions.
- Sitting/standing for prolonged periods, in a close environment with others, with frequently bending/stooping/walking, climbing (ladder, steps) and reaching (including overhead).
- May be in proximity to chemicals, fumes, heat, noise, cold, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
- Must meet on-call commitment
