Job Description

Akima Systems Engineering (ASE), an Akima company, is not just another federal systems support contractor. As an Alaska Native Corporation (ANC), our mission and purpose extend beyond our exciting federal projects as we support our shareholder communities in Alaska.

At ASE, the work you do every day makes a difference in the lives of our 15,000 Iñupiat shareholders, a group of Alaska natives from one of the most remote and harshest environments in the United States.

For our shareholders, ASE provides support and employment opportunities and contributes to the survival of a culture that has thrived above the Arctic Circle for more than 10,000 years.

For our government customers, ASE delivers solutions in maritime IT, systems engineering, and integration across the Department of Defense and stands ready to help improve operational performance at a reasonable and sustainable cost.

As an ASE employee, you will be surrounded by a challenging, yet supportive work environment that is committed to innovation and diversity, two of our most important values. You will also have access to
our comprehensive benefits and competitive pay in addition to growth opportunities and excellent retirement options.

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Program Manager to lead a critical IC (Interior Communications) installation project on all surface ships in the United States Navy including Aircraft Carriers (CVN). The selected individual will be responsible for the successful planning, execution, and delivery of the IC upgrade, ensuring that all project objectives are met within scope, on time, and within budget. This is a high-visibility role that requires exceptional leadership, communication, and technical skills to manage cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and vendors.

Job Responsibilities:

•        Scheduling and Budgeting: Develop and manage detailed project schedules and budgets. Monitor project performance, EVMS, and implement corrective actions as needed to stay on track.
•        Risk Management: Identify, assess, and manage project risks. Develop mitigation strategies and contingency plans to address potential issues that could impact project success.
•        Team Coordination: Lead and coordinate cross-functional teams, including engineers, technicians, procurement, and logistics personnel, to ensure seamless project execution.
•        Compliance and Quality Assurance: Ensure all project activities comply with relevant Navy standards, regulations, and quality requirements. Oversee testing and validation processes to ensure the installation meets all technical specifications.
•        Reporting: Prepare and present regular project status reports to senior management and Navy stakeholders. Highlight key milestones, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
•        Vendor Management: Manage relationships with vendors and subcontractors involved in the IC installation. Ensure timely delivery of materials and services according to contract terms.
•        Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance project efficiency, effectiveness, and safety.

Minimum Qualification:

•        Minimum of 8 years of experience in program or project management, with a focus on large-scale installation or upgrade projects, preferably within the defense or maritime industry.
•        Proven track record of successfully managing complex projects involving multiple stakeholders and high levels of technical and operational complexity.
•        Strong understanding of Navy communication systems, particularly IC systems, and experience with CVN or other naval vessel projects.
•        Exceptional leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide cross-functional teams.
•        Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with senior military and civilian personnel.
•        Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing challenges.
•        Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance as required by project specifications.
