Job Description
We are seeking a dynamic and skilled Spanish Telephone-Interpreter & Translator Coordinator to join our team. This role involves handling calls on demand and rendering the meaning of conversations between Spanish and English speakers. Additionally, the coordinator will assist in scheduling interpreters, supporting translation projects, and ensuring exceptional customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- **Interpretation and Translation:** Provide translation and interpretation services for multiple divisions/agencies, both internal and external.
- **Customer Service Excellence:** Meet and exceed customer service standards, ensuring client needs are fulfilled.
- **Professionalism:** Maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality in all translations and interpretations.
- **Client Advocacy:** Advocate for Limited English Proficiency (LEP) clients when necessary.
- **Flexibility:** Maintain a flexible daily schedule, including availability during non-traditional work hours and days.
- **Effective Communication:** Communicate effectively with requestors and staff to ensure all needs are met.
- **Meeting Attendance:** Attend meetings, conferences, or events as needed to support the department.
- **Translation Tasks:** Read or listen to material in the original language, determine the meaning and context, and convert it into a second language while preserving the original meaning.
- **Proofreading:** Proofread translations to ensure accuracy.
- **Document Translation:** Complete translation requests for various materials, including brochures, flyers, program literature, articles, authorization forms, consent forms, legal documents, provider and client letters, and direct requests from the State Health Commissioner's office.
- **Concept Relay:** Relay concepts and ideas between languages accurately.
- **Resource Utilization:** Use special dictionaries, glossaries, and websites for reference. Research as necessary to understand all terminology.
- **Software Proficiency:** Use appropriate software for delivery and presentation.
- **Expert Consultation:** Consult with experts in specialized areas as needed.
- **Front Desk Support:** Assist the front desk with interpretation requests for visitors.
- **Three-Way Calls:** Lead three-way calls for staff in various divisions.
- **Community Events:** Attend community events to provide interpretation services, document translation, and sight translations.
Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise
- **Education and Experience:** Bachelor's degree or a minimum of 2+ years of experience in translating.
- **Training and Certification:** Completion of a 40-hour Interpreting Training program such as Bridging the Gap. ATA, CMI, or CCHI Certification preferred.
- **Language Proficiency:** Native Spanish speaker level with excellent grammar. Must be able to navigate documents in both English and Spanish and communicate spontaneously without errors.
- **Bilingual Fluency:** Fluent in English and Spanish, with the ability to communicate professionally both verbally and in writing.
- **Industry Knowledge:** Demonstrate industry-specific knowledge and interpreting/translating abilities.
- **Cultural Competency:** Culturally competent with strong communication skills.
- **Discretion and Confidentiality:** High level of discretion and confidentiality.
- **Independence:** Ability to work with limited supervision and interpret/translate assignments without bias.
- **Stress Management:** Strong stress management skills.
- **Physical Demands:** Must be able to sit for long periods and read long documents with attention to detail.
- **Interpersonal Skills:** Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to convey information effectively to both professionals and the public.
- **Proficiency Test:** Must complete a proficiency test to determine language proficiency in grammar, vocabulary, and syntax.
- **Vocabulary Comprehension:** Comprehension and domain of vocabulary in distinct registers, including jargon and acronyms. Familiarity with idiomatic expressions and slangs.
- **Technical Skills:** Skills in using Microsoft Office.
- **Customer Service:** Exemplary customer service skills.
- **Teamwork:** Ability to work as a team member, take direction, and make decisions.
- **Office Skills:** Excellent office skills and computer knowledge.
- **Communication:** Ability to comprehend oral and written directions, express ideas clearly, and convey information.
