Job Description
White House Utility District (WHUD) has an opening for a Water Treatment Plant Operator in Training. This position provides the training and experience needed to become a certified Grade IV Water Treatment Plant Operator. The starting pay for this position is $20/hour.
Wages may be negotiated based on prior experience, applicable certifications and licenses and other credentials. The Water Treatment Plant is operated and staffed 24-hours a day, 365 days a year. Candidates must be able to work a 12-hour rotating shift and be available for both day and night shift, including holidays and weekends.
The Water Treatment Plant Operator in Training will learn and perform:
- Preventative maintenance, housekeeping and equipment repairs
- Regular laboratory functions and other duties to produce water that meets and/or exceeds all federal and state regulations
- SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) system monitoring for operational conditions at the treatment facility and throughout the entirety of the District’s distribution and sewer systems
To qualify , a candidate must have a high school diploma and valid driver's license. Candidates must also pass a thorough and extensive background check and pre-employment drug screen.
Candidates must be able to meet all physical requirements of the position including:
- Perceiving and discriminating colors or shades of colors, sounds, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals
- Working in small, cramped spaces such as ditches, trenches, manholes, meter vaults, and other confined spaces
- Performing essential functions under exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, water, sludge, wastewater, odors, rain, ice, snow, wind, temperature extremes, fumes, toxic agents, extreme noise, machine vibrations, electric currents, etc.
- Climbing ladders and stairs and performing work at varying elevations up to 50 feet
- Swimming and treading water
- Walking, climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, stretching, twisting, or other similar motions
- Lifting and moving objects weighing up to 75 pounds
- Utilizing and making rapid, complex adjustments and compensations to control the actions of equipment, machinery, and tools
- Using and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Reporting to work for emergency duty in the event of a man-made disaster or an act of God. Emergency duties may involve tasks outside the scope of the employee's normal work routine
