Training & Development Specialist IV (Workplace Safety Training Specialist IV)
This position, with the Workplace Safety Training and Inspections Program, oversees and conducts occupational safety and health training sessions in English. Workplace safety Training Specialist IV enjoy a rewardable profession by helping to ensure that Texas employers and their workers receive safety and health training services to identify and provide knowledge to those attending on how to identify, avoid and report occupational safety and health hazards to reduce work-related injuries and illnesses. Workplace Safety Training Specialist IV receives ongoing professional development and training, work regular hours with flexible schedules, and hone their occupational safety and health training skills by working with employers in a variety of industries each day.
This position:
- The Training Specialist IV performs complex (senior level) training work.
- Work involves planning, designing, organizing, conducting, and evaluating educational and training programs in English.
- Coordinating and conducting training sessions; and promoting the use of training services, methods, and techniques.
- Observes all applicable agency policies and procedures, including adhering to established leave and attendance policies, safety rules and regulations, and use of state property.
- Works under limited supervision with moderate latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
This position requires:
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university.
- Five years full-time experience in performing occupational safety and health work in General and Construction industries.
- A four-year college degree in occupational safety and health, OR a Safety Professional (CSP) Certification, OR a Industrial Hygienist (CIH) Certification may be substituted for two years of work experience.
- Must have English language skills (oral and written).
Additional job details:
- This position requires regular work attendance.
- The position may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule. If eligible, the employee must have a secure, dedicated workplace with reliable broadband internet service.
- The ideal candidate must be available for weekly meetings and group collaboration via Microsoft Teams and other applications during regular business hours.
- The interview will include a reading and writing test.
- The interview will include a 30-minute PPT presentation. If scheduled for an interview, you will be provided with a variety of safety and health topics to select your presentation topic.
Preferences for this position include:
- Five years full-time experience in performing occupational safety and health work in General and Construction industries.
- Bachelor's degree in health and safety field.
- Occupational safety designation, such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Occupational Health & Safety Technician (OHST).
- Authorized OSHA Outreach Trainer in General and Construction Industries.

- Using personal computers sufficient to enter and extract data from related systems and programs such as Centralized Accounting Payroll and Personnel (CAPPS) and other systems required to perform the job.

- Effective oral and written communication.
- Use of common PC applications in Windows environments, including word processing, email, internet, spreadsheets, and database applications.
- Prioritizing workload to meet continuous deadlines.
